Title: AI Governance & Risk Implementation Lead
Position Type: Contract
Duration: Initial 12-Month Contract
Client Location: Toronto, ON
Work Model: Hybrid work model - 3 days per week in office

About the Engagement
Akkodis is partnering with a large enterprise organization to engage an experienced AI Governance & Risk Implementation Lead to support the development and operationalization of its Enterprise AI Governance Program.

Following a recent AI governance maturity assessment, the organization has established a strategic roadmap aligned to the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) and is seeking a seasoned governance professional to help translate that roadmap into practical, enterprise-wide implementation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a governance, risk, or GRC professional with experience in AI Governance, Responsible AI, AI Risk Management, or emerging technology governance. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in defining and implementing AI governance standards, controls, operating models, and processes that support the responsible adoption of AI across the organization.

Working closely with Technology, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Audit, and business stakeholders, you will help ensure AI initiatives are governed appropriately throughout the entire AI lifecycle, from intake and assessment through deployment, monitoring, and decommissioning.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys bridging governance requirements with practical implementation and can effectively communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Services to be Provided
Implement AI governance standards, policies, controls, and guardrails aligned with the organization's roadmap and governance objectives.
Support the operationalization of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) across the enterprise.
Develop and enhance AI governance processes covering the full AI lifecycle, including intake, assessment, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
Establish and refine AI governance operating models, including ownership structures, governance forums, workflows, and decision-making processes.
Facilitate cross-functional workshops and working sessions with stakeholders across Technology, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Audit, and business teams.
Translate governance frameworks and risk requirements into practical implementation guidance for technical and business stakeholders.
Develop governance artifacts including standards, procedures, workflows, risk registers, inventories, controls, and reporting mechanisms.
Provide executive-level reporting, roadmap updates, and governance status communications.
Support AI risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation activities.
Drive adoption of Responsible AI principles and governance best practices across the organization.
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure governance processes remain scalable, sustainable, and business-enabling.

Expertise Required
Strong experience in AI Governance, Responsible AI, AI Risk Management, Technology Governance, GRC, Enterprise Risk, or Compliance functions.
Hands-on experience implementing governance frameworks, standards, controls, and operating models.
Working knowledge and practical experience with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF).
Familiarity with ISO/IEC 42001 or other AI governance and management system frameworks.
Experience developing governance artifacts such as policies, standards, procedures, controls, risk assessments, workflows, inventories, and operating models.
Ability to translate governance and risk requirements into actionable implementation plans.
Experience facilitating workshops and engaging diverse stakeholder groups across business and technology functions.
Strong executive communication skills, including the preparation of presentations, status reports, dashboards, and steering committee materials.
Understanding of AI lifecycle governance, Responsible AI principles, AI controls, and AI risk management practices.
Familiarity with generative AI risks, AI vendor governance, and emerging AI regulatory considerations.
Experience working within large enterprise environments and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
Strong documentation, stakeholder management, and program delivery capabilities.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Risk Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
Relevant certifications such as AIGP, ISO 42001 Lead Implementer, or similar credentials are considered an asset.
